If you ask people of Banaras – or Varanasi also known as Kashi – about most mesmerizing event in city, they will surely tell you about Ganga arti.

It is a ritual followed by priests of the main ghat of Banaras, Dashashwamedh Ghat, since ages. Every evening a group of priests perform ‘agni puja’ (worship of fire) as a homage to Lord Shiva, River Ganga, sun and fire.

Third attraction in Banaras is for devotees of Lord Shiva, never forget to visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most famous Hindu temples in the country. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlings and the holiest of Shiva temples.

The fashion lovers have something to look out for in Banaras. The place is known for its world famous ethnic wear Banarasi saree. Do check the process of its weaving, intricate zari work and not forget to get one for your loved ones.

Another place worth visiting is Sarnath, located 13 km from Banaras near the confluence of the Ganga and Gomti rivers. It is a holy place for Hindus as well as Buddhists.

It is the place where Lord Buddha taught the Dharma after attaining Enlightenment. Thousands of Buddhist pilgrims from Japan, Thailand, Myanmar and Sri Lanka visit Sarnath every year.
