Mozilla had launched Firefox three years ago to challenge other dominant platforms including those powered by Google and Apple. It now wants its staff to stay free to try how exactly the OS fits into the growing internet-of-things scene.

Ari Jaaksi, Mozilla’s SVP of Connected Devices, recently said at an event “we weren’t able to offer the best user experience possible and so we will stop offering Firefox OS smartphones through carrier channels.”
