Higher intake of coffee may prevent liver damage!

The analysis of the British-led study shows that two extra cups of coffee a day reduced the chances of developing cirrhosis of the liver by 44 per cent.

The researchers, however, warned that boozers should not go overboard on their coffee consumption.

It is already known that coffee is a rich source of antioxidant having thousands of compounds. Earlier studies have shown coffee consumption could protect against mood disorders, the risk of depression and liver cancer.

In the new study, the researchers looked at the data of nine existing studies based on nearly half a million participants.

The analysis of the British-led study shows that two extra cups of coffee a day reduce the chances of developing cirrhosis of the liver by 44 percent.

The review has appeared in the journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics .

Cirrhosis is a chronic disease of liver commonly caused by higher consumption of alcohol.
