The Noida-based little-known Indian company, established only a few months ago, launched its smartphone on February 17.

The excitement was such that within hours the company had to suspend booking orders “due to overload”. By 11 am on Saturday, the company claimed to have received orders from a total of 7.35 crore people.

Though Ringing Bell said on its website it was upgrading the service and would revert within 24 hours, it did not resume the facility.

“We appreciate and acknowledge that we may not have been able to meet the needs of all, but will definitely look forward to serving you again in the next phase,” the company now says on its website.

The telecom ministry has asked the company why it is marketing Freedom 251 without a BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification. It has also asked the Uttar Pradesh government to check the credential of the firm.

The excise, income tax and the I-T departments have also begun the investigation into the company’s credentials.

An expert on such gadgets said it is good that the departments are probing the credentials of the new company.

Its inbuilt touchless technology is supposed to be ideal for perfect selfie. It has 3.2 MP AF rear camera and 0.3 MP front camera.

With its 1450 mAh battery, Freedom 251 claims to offer more time to talk, text, play and watch videos without needing to worry about running out of power.
