Chickenpox is a highly contagious airborne disease caused by varicella zoster virus (VZV). It spreads through the coughs and sneezes of an infected person.

The symptoms of chickenpox are skin rash, small, itchy blisters, fever, tiredness, and headaches. The duration of the disease is generally five to seven days.

Chickenpox in adults is more severe than in children.

Here are 10 home remedies that you may try in case of chickenpox:

1. Baking Soda

You may mix some baking soda with water and make a paste of it. Apply on skin and let it dry. According to Organic Facts, baking soda has active ingredients that reduce itchiness and inflammation of blistered skin.

2. Carrot-coriander soup

Both carrot and coriander have anti-inflammatory properties and are anti-oxidants. Cut carrots into pieces, add coriander and boil them in water. Strain, let it cool and drink at least twice a day.

3. Ginger

Ginger alleviates inflammation. Add ginger powder in warm water and take a bath. It will reduce itching. Also, you may add ginger pieces to water, boil, strain, drink in sips.

4. Marigold flowers and hazel leaves

Sun-dry marigold flowers and hazel leaves. Crush, mix and make a powder. Add one teaspoon of the powder to one cup water.

Oatmeal bath during chicken pox is as old as granny’s healing tips. Grind two cups of oatmeal and make a fine powder. Put it in 2-litre lukewarm water. Make a paste and soak in your bath-water for around 15 minutes.

7. Honey

It may be sticky, but honey actively reduces inflammation and irritation. It is anti-bacterial too. Apply on the pockmarks and wash it off after 15 minutes.

8. Neem leaves

Neem leaves are a cure-all organic remedy. Make healing faster by adding neem leaves to water, boil, let the water cool and take a bath.

9. Epsom salt

Epsom salts can dry out pockmarks. Soak epsom salt in your bath-water for about 30 minutes, take a bath, let the salt water dry on your skin.

10. Green peas

Green peas are rich in vitamins and anti-oxidants. They also help reduce itching. Boil some green peas in water, strain and clean the rashes, blisters or pockmarks.
