Micro-blogging site Twitter said it has suspended more than 125,000 accounts since the middle of 2015 because they promoted terrorism.
Twitter was under pressure from the authorities in United States and in other countries after it was found that the groups involved in terror activities were using its platform as a mode of communication.
The company has increased the size of its teams to review reports and posts which violate its terms. It has also leveraged spam fighting tools so that such messages are tracked promptly without delay and reduce response time.
“Like most people around the world, we are horrified by the atrocities perpetrated by extremist groups. We condemn the use of Twitter to promote terrorism and the Twitter Rules make it clear that this type of behavior, or any violent threat, is not permitted on our service,” the company said in a blog post.
Twitter’s war against terrorism seems to be yielding results. “We have already seen results, including an increase in account suspensions and this type of activity shifting off of Twitter,” it has stated.
