Making viral videos have become almost everyone’s cup of tea these days. They are sometimes fun, sometimes heart-touching, at times sarcastic.

They not always feature stars but also make stars like Yo Yo Honey Singh and Shraddha Sharma. While viral videos give instant fame and recognition to some, they defame some and make them face public criticism as well.

For beginners, a viral video is a video graphic content that is made popular via the viral process of sharing on the internet, mainly through video sharing websites like YouTube, Dailymotion, and Vimeo; social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter and email.

1. Be Our Pondati (Parody of Call Me Maybe)

It takes three final year students of IIT-Madras to take on arranged marriages in India via a parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s popular song ‘Call Me Maybe’.

Asmita Ghosh and Anukripa Elango rewrote the lyrics as a matrimonial ad and shot the song titled “Be Our Pondati” featuring fellow-student Krupa Varghese for a college contest.

The song is about a mother-in-law looking for a ‘tall, thin and fair’ daughter-in-law for her MBA son. She makes stereotyped demands like the daughter-in-law should reproduce soon, work only part-time, won’t wear shorts and that she will have ‘no life’ to call her own as she has to dedicate herself in the well-being of the family.

The video went viral via YouTube in no time with 538,007 views as on Apr 19.

2. #LastWordsMade by Indian Association of Palliative Care, #LastWords is a film where some senior and young nurses revealed the last words of their patients in a heartwrenching way.The video was made to raise awareness about palliative care in India.The video went viral with 90,179 views as on Apr 19.

3. Arshi Khan’s strip act

Model-actress Arshi Khan, who claims to be Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi’s alleged girlfriend, posted a video of her strip dance after India beat Pakistan in ICC T20 World Cup 2016.The video got 105,458 views as on Apr 19.4. Taher Shah’s “Angel”

Self-claimed Pakistani pop sensation Taher Shah took the Internet by storm (sarcasm intended) after with his latest song ‘Angel’. The video features him roaming around in a purple gown, with his tiara-decorated long tresses flying in the wind, waving his wand and crooning how he is mankind’s angel!

Soon he is joined by a masked blonde angel and they fall in love and moments after they are seen walking with a child ‘angel’, whose dress is a clone of that of Taher’s.

The video garnered as many as 1,946,488 views as on Apr 19.

5. Poonam Pandey’s Santa actModel-actress Poonam Pandey grabbed eyeballs with her unique (read, usual, asset-revealing) way of wishing her ‘fans’ Merry Christmas.Dressed in a Santa Claus red outfit, she parodied the most cherished Christmas carol ‘Jingle Bells’ and made a sleazy video called ‘Jingle Boobs’, which is still counting at 1,241,818 views.

6. Mauka Mauka

This video was released before India took on Pakistan at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Mar 19 at World Cup T20 2016.

The video shows how India gets united irrespective of religion when it comes to cheering for the country in the game of cricket.

The video went viral and was viewed 161,104 times as on Apr 19.


7. Kanhaiya Kumar’s fiery speech

When JNU Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar walked out of the jail and gave the blistering speech late night on the university campus, the video went viral to generate 1,053,215 views (as on Apr 19).

8. Anupam Kher’s speech on JNU campus:

Last month actor Anupam Kher visited the JNU campus and attacked students who walked out of the jail on bail.

The video got 263,263 views as on Apr 19.

9. Javed Akhtar chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’

When poet-lyricist and former Rajya Sabha MP Javed Akhtar chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogan (Hail Mother India), the video got as many as 506,301 views (as on Apr 19).

Giving his last speech in the Upper House of the Indian Parliament before the end of his term, Akhtar attacked All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi for the latter’s refusal to chant the slogan and said the same thrice.

10. Bipasha Basu-Karan Singh Grover’s wedding card

Actors Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover sent a video wedding invite to selected guests for their wedding on Apr 30 and after-party. The video card got leaked online and generated 98,974 views (as on Apr 19).
