Here are the Top 10 countries with the highest number of rape crimes:

1. South Africa

It is estimated around 5,00,000 rapes happen in South Africa every year.

Though reports say over 40% of South African women are raped at least once in their lifetime, the South African Medical Research Council says only 1 in 9 rapes are reported. The number of cases registered with the police is actually much lower than the actual figures.

According to the South African Police Service, 41% of all rape crimes involve child victims, and 15% of rape victims are aged under 11 years.

South African charity organization Tears Foundation says, 50% of the country’s children are abused before the age of 18.

2. Sweden

When it comes to Sweden, statistics show that 1 in every 4 women there is a rape victim.

The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) says there were 63 rapes per 1,00,000 people as per the official report in 2013.

3. USA

Do you know one in every three American women are sexually abused during their lifetime. Well, that’s what Worldwide Sexual Assault Statistics by George Mason University have found out.

The data reveals at least 19.3% of women and 2% of men are raped at least once in their lifetime.

A report by USA Today says 79% of rape victims were first before the age of 25, and 40% before they turned 18.

According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), every 107 seconds, there is a sexual assault victim in the US.

4. UK

About 85,000 people, including men and woman, are subjected to rape every year in England and Wales, reveals a report titled “An Overview of Sexual Offending in England and Wales” released by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Office for National Statistics (ONS) and Home Office.

As per the report, 1 in every 5 women faces some for of sexual violence since the age of 16.

5. India

Every day at least 93 females are raped in India; one every 20 minutes, as per the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB).

The NCRB says rapes in India has increased by 7.5% since 2010, with majority of victims being in the age group of 18-30.

One out of three victims is below the age of 18, and one in 10 rape victims is under 14 years of age.

6. New Zealand

According to New Zealand Ministry of Justice report, every two hours, there is a sexual violence in the country. One out of three girls and one out of six boys face sexual abuse before turning 16.

7. Canada

Every year Canada records approximately 4,60,000 sexual assault cases, according to HuffPost.

A disturbing fact is 83% of all disabled women in Canada are sexually abused at least once in their lifetime.

As per police statistics, 17% of the victims are girls below the age of 16.

8. Australia

Rape rate in Australia is as high as 1,00,000 people a year!

The Australian Federal Police says almost 51,200 Australians aged 18 and over have been a victim of sexual assault.

9. Zimbabwe

One woman is raped every 90 minutes in Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe National Statistics (ZimStat) finds at least 16 women are raped daily, while 500 females face sexual abuse monthly in the country.

According to UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Fund), number of child rapes have shot up 42% in Zimbabwe.

10. Europe

A study by European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights has revealed that one out of three females in Europe face physical or sexual assault; out of them, 5% are raped.

The study says approximately 47% of women surveyed in Finland and 52 % of women in Denmark have confessed to have suffered physical and/or sexual abuse.
