Know everything about the engineering counselling procedure

As we all know, the registration and choice filling for Engineering colleges in India is going to commence from 15th June conducted by the joint seat allocation authority (JoSAA), here is all you need to know before heading for the counselling!

JoSAA will organize engineering counselling for admission to 663 courses spanning a duration of 4 or 5 years (depending on the course) in 100 participating Institutions including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 GFTIs.

1) The JoSAA will conduct 7 rounds for the academic year 2018-19.

3) Registration process:-

All candidates who have appeared in JEE (Main) 2018 are eligible to register for seat allocation in NIT+ system (except IITs).

All candidates who have declared qualified in JEE (Adv) 2018 are eligible to register for seat allocation in all participating Institutes.

4) Filling in of choices:

-Candidates may fill their choice of institution and branche in decreasing order of their preference. Candidates are expected to fill in as many choices of their interest as possible.

Candidates must “lock” their choices. If NOT, their last saved choices will automatically be locked as the choice filling closes.

NOTE: Once the choices are locked, they can NOT be modified.

5) Provisional seat acceptance :

Candidates accepting an allotted seat have to pay the seat acceptance fee (through SBI e-challan/Net banking/Debit cards) and get the documents verified at any reporting centre.

6) Documents required :

i. Three passport size photographs (uploaded during registration)

ii. Provisional seat allotment letter

iii. Proof of seat acceptance fee payment

iv. Photo identity card

v. JEE Main 2018 Admit Card

vi. JEE Main 2018 Score Card

vii. Date of birth proof (10th class mark sheet)

viii. Class XII Mark sheet

ix. Udertaking by the candidate

x. Medical certificate

xi. Category certificate (if applicable)

xii. PwD certificate (if applicable)

xiii. OCI certificate of PIO card (if applicable)

xiv. Registration-cum-locked choices for seat allotment

7) Subsequent rounds :

Candidate is required to fill option for

i. Freeze :- Acceptance of the allotted seat and NO participation in subsequent rounds.

ii. Slide :- Acceptance of allotted seat and looking for a better option in the same institution in the subsequent rounds.

iii. Float :- Acceptance of the allotted seat and looking for admission in a better institution in the subsequent rounds.

8) A dual reporting provision for changes from NIT+ system to IITs and vice versa is there i.e. the candidate has to report in an IIT/NIT ONCE AGAIN for the acceptance of the seat.

9) Withdrawal Procedure:- Candidate with already accepted seat can withdraw it by reporting at the reporting centre up to the 6th round of counselling.
