Youth4WaterIndia Launches Factsheet on Coastal Wetlands to Raise Awareness

Bhubaneswar, February 2: The #Youth4WaterIndia campaign launched the “Factsheet on Coastal Wetlands” in commemoration of World Wetlands Day 2023. The Factsheet aims to educate young people on the importance of coastal wetlands and encourage them to take action in conserving these precious ecosystems.

The Factsheet was officially unveiled by Odisha’s Minister of State for Home, Shri Tusharkanti Behera, at an event hosted by the School of Sustainability, XIM University, at the Kushabhadra River Mouth. Additionally, the Factsheet was also unveiled remotely by Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Shri Pradeep Kumar Jena.

Co-founder of the campaign and Odisha’s Water Man, Mr. Ranjan Panda, acknowledged the support from Wetlands International South Asia and other partners in the creation of the Factsheet.

He also thanked the School of Sustainability, XIM University, for hosting the sustainability summit and wetlands day action programs.

As part of the World Wetlands Day celebrations, the campaign is launching a photography competition for young people on the theme “Wetlands and Us.”

A drawing and painting competition and a visit to the Hirakud Ramsar Site are also planned.

The campaign is supported by Wetlands International South Asia, Foundation for Ecological Security, School of Sustainability XIM University, UN Environment Program, Global Environment Facility, Mahanadi River Waterkeeper, Sambalpur Wildlife Division, JCI Sambalpur, Sambalpur Kala Academy, Yuva Udayan, Rotary Club of Sambalpur Greater, and Water Initiatives.
