New chocolate brown Rs. 10 note with Konark wheel

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come up with a new, chocolate brown-coloured Rs. 10 note that carries a motif of the Great Wheel of the famous Konark Sun Temple.

Here is everything you need to know about the new chocolate brown Rs. 10 note:

1. The RBI announced the redesigned Rs. 10 note on Jan 5.

2. The base colour of the new Rs. 10 note is chocolate brown. The old note is orange-violet in colour.

3. The dimension of the new banknote will be 66 mm x 123 mm. The existing Rs. 10 note is 63 mm x 137 mm.

4. Other than colour and size, another main difference between the old and new 10-rupee note is that the reverse of the new one carries the motif of the Great Wheel of the famous Konark Sun Temple of Odisha to depict India’s rich cultural heritage. The old Rs, 10 note carry the images of rhinoceros, elephant and tiger to highlight India’s fauna.

5. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has thanked the RBI for featuring the famous Konark wheel in the new Rs. 10 note. “Filled with pride that the rich cultural heritage of #Odisha finds a place in Nation’s currency. #Konark Wheel, the timeless symbol of our art and sculpture, is depicted in the new Rs. 10 currency note. Congratulate @RBI for incorporating the world famous Sun Temple motif in the note,” he tweeted.

6. The new note will bear the signature of RBI governor Urjit Patel.

7. The RBI said it will shortly put the new note into circulation under the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. However, the old Rs. 10 notes will continue to co-exist.

8. As a security feature, the new Rs. 10 note will have a see-through register with denominational numeral 10.

9. The new note will also carry denominational numeral १० in Devanagari, a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre, micro letters ‘RBI’, ‘भारत’, ‘INDIA’ and ’10’, windowed demetalised security thread with inscriptions ‘भारत’ and RBI, Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right, Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype 10 Watermark.

10. The new, chocolate brown Rs. 10 note will have number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side.

11. The year of printing of the note will be there on the left.
