Bhubaneswar Hosts the 77th IIM-ATM: 10 Key Highlights

The 77th Annual Technical Meeting of The Indian Institute of Metals and National Metallurgist Awards (IIM-ATM 2023 & NMA) commenced at the KIIT Convention Centre, Bhubaneswar, from November 22nd to November 24th, 2023.

Bhubaneswar,Nov 22 : The 77th Annual Technical Meeting of The Indian Institute of Metals and National Metallurgist Awards (IIM-ATM 2023 & NMA) commenced at the KIIT Convention Centre, Bhubaneswar, from November 22nd to November 24th, 2023.

The event is organized by the Angul, Sambalpur, and Bhubaneswar Chapters of IIM, in collaboration with Hindalco Industries Ltd. and KIIT Deemed to Be University, Bhubaneswar.


Inauguration:

The Plenary session was inaugurated by Shri Pradeep Kumar Jena, IAS, Chief Secretary, Odisha, along with prominent figures such as Shri Hemant Sharma, IAS, Shri Satish Pai, Shri Sajjan Jindal, Shri Amarendu Prakash, Prof. BS Murty, and Dr. Komal Kapoor.

Mining Sector Growth:

Shri Jena highlighted the mining sector’s remarkable contribution to the state’s growth, citing a nearly 10-fold increase in revenue from Rs. 4,900 crore in 2016-17 to almost Rs. 50,000 crore in 2021-22.

Emphasizing the Odisha government’s commitment, Shri Jena expressed support for the metals and metallurgical sector, including the development of new technology and collaboration with research institutions.

Sustainability Focus:

Shri Satish Pai, President IIM, emphasized the need for the metals industry to transform sustainably. The theme, ‘Sustainable Transformations in Metal Industries,’ reflects a call to operate in an environmentally responsible manner.

Mr. Pai introduced the concept of ‘metalmorphosis,’ symbolizing the industry’s evolution towards global sustainability leadership. The conference embodies this spirit by providing a platform for collaboration among experts, researchers, and industry leaders.

Impressive participation:

The event boasts 60 prominent National and International Speakers in multiple sessions and nearly 700 technical paper presentations across 10 parallel technical sessions.

Over 1,300 participants, including senior officials, corporate representatives, and researchers from government, PSUs, and global metal industries, are attending the three-day event.

Awards Ceremony:

The NMA Awards ceremony featured Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste and Shri Nagendra Nath Sinha, IAS. Awards in five categories recognized experts in metallurgy, including Lifetime Achievement and R & D in Iron and Steel Sector.

JRD Tata Leadership Award:

Shri TV Narendran, Global CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel, received the prestigious JRD Tata Leadership Award 2023, a significant highlight of the IIM Annual Technical Meeting.
